After meeting with a fellow Union College alumnus, current student, and an administrator and school allies, I helped create an unofficial gay-straight alliance to give safe spaces and hope to LGBT+ students, closeted or otherwise. Before launching the Facebook page on National Coming Out Day, I brainstormed the name and created a logo to mimic the iconic campus clock tower.
As the marketing liaison, I offer pro bono design work and maintain the Facebook page. Our online advertising has been completely organic and unpaid, and we’ve grown the Facebook community to more than 300 people. A Valentine’s Day “Spread The Love” campaign reached more than 2,000 people, while my report on a national, denominational LGBT+ summit in Lincoln reached more than 3,800 people and led to an interview with the Walla Walla Union-Bulletin in Washington.
